Well, there's friends of mine who walk around
Give you the impression that they're real good guys

They smile and say, "Hello, how are you, man?
You're looking good. I hear you're doing fine."

When you got money, baby
They'll come around and see you every day

And one day when you got nothing
You'll see them walk away
(Friends) Friends
(Friends) I wanna know
(Friends, friends) Who is my friend?
(Friends, friends) Hey, hey, hey
They're so cool when it's convenient
All depends on who's around

And when you're out of fashion
That's when your friends put you down
Hey, hey, hey (Friends, yeah, yeah)
Hey, hey, hey (Friends, yeah, yeah)
Hey, hey, hey (Friends, yeah, yeah)
Yeah, yeah, yeah (Friends, yeah, yeah)
Well, at gatherings of people
You can see 'em play the hero almost loud and clear

Oh, but dropping in so loud
In a funny kind of whisper shout
Everybody has to hear

And over in the corner
Sits his wife, no longer fooled at all

'Cause she knows that he's really
Not a man at all
Hey (Friends, friends)
I wanna know (Friends, friends)
Who is my friend?
(Friends, friends) Hey, hey, hey

They'll come around and spend your money
(Money, money when you're down)
When you're down, they walk away
(He's going down)
Going down to the river
(To the river just to drown)
I got to get away
(From his friends) From my friends
(Friends, yeah, yeah)

(Friends) No, no (Yeah, yeah)
(Friends, yeah, yeah)
They'll come around and spend your money
(Whoa-oh)
And when you're down, they walk away
(Whoa-oh)
I'm going down to the river
(Whoa-oh)
I just got to get away from my friends
(Friends, yeah, yeah)

There's no friends (Yeah, yeah)
Friends (Yeah, yeah)
Hey, hey, hey (Friends, whoa-oh)
Hey, hey, hey (Friends, whoa-oh)
Hey, hey, hey (Friends, whoa-oh)
Hey, hey, hey (Friends, whoa-oh)
Yeah, yeah (Friends, whoa-oh)
Friends (Whoa-oh)
Friends (Whoa-oh)
Friends (Whoa-oh)
